ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
The Agora Perene Institute (API) is a cultural institute and non-profit association engaged in educational projects and think tank activities. Its mission and core values aim to fill gaps in the field of high culture and classical and traditional studies.
WHAT ARE CLASSICAL AND TRADITIONAL STUDIES?
Classical and Traditional Studies are an important field of human knowledge left as a civilizational historical legacy. It is, therefore, an enduring millenary knowledge accumulated as a common heritage of humanity, involving an integral, unified, and interdisciplinary vision of the human being, nature, and society.
More precisely, the classical and traditional worldview was expressed in the history of Western thought through various authors, such as Plato, Aristotle, Thomas Aquinas, Plotinus, Dante Alighieri, and Luis de Camões. Also worthy of mention are authors from the Eastern world, such as Confucius, Avicenna, Ibn Arabi, and Shankaracharya.
Thus, it is a field that encompasses the studies of metaphysical philosophy (both Western and Eastern), physics, anthropology, and ethics — disciplines that constitute the theoretical core of modern natural and social sciences (sociology, economics, psychology, and law).
It also covers the humanistic and literary studies of the Trivium (Rhetoric, Logic, and Grammar) and Quadrivium (Arithmetic, Geometry, Music, and Astronomy), which formed the preparatory corpus for classical and traditional philosophical education.
The symbolism of the tree is linked to Perennial Knowledge, one of the objectives of Classical and Traditional Studies, a theme of the Instituto Ágora Perene. In short, just like a tree, classical and traditional knowledge constitute a perennial trunk from which various disciplines of knowledge have branched out throughout the history of human thought, resonating up to the present day through science, literature, art, politics, and society.
